KIM WILDE - THE GREATEST HITS TOUR 2022 - Concert Review

Der Veranstalter Shooter Promotion hatte mit der 80er-Ikone Kim Wilde und dem geschichtsträchtigen Capitol Theater Offenbach als Location die perfekte Kombination für einen glamourösen Abend gewählt. Von den Gästen, großenteils im besten Alter, wurde dies mit ausverkauftem Haus honoriert. Wer wollte, konnte sich vorab in der gediegenen Atmosphäre des Gastronomiebereichs mit feinen Snacks und Getränken auf den Abend einstimmen. Es gab keine Vorband, Beginn direkt pünktlich um 20 Uhr.

Es fing relativ verhalten an, wobei Kim Wilde von Anfang an 100%ig ablieferte, um ihre geneigte Zuhörerschaft abzuholen. Dass der Start nicht gleich zündete, lag vermutlich an der Titelauswahl des zu Beginn gesetzten Pop-Dance-Blocks: Die 1988er Single „Never Trust a Stranger“ gehörte darin noch zu den bekanntesten Stücken. Ebenso konnten „If I Can’t Have You“ (im Original von den Bee Gees), „Second Time“ und der gefühlt uralte Art-Pop-Hit „M - Pop Muzik“ noch nicht im vollen Umfang die Herzen des Publikums treffen.

Nach gut einer halben Stunde brach dann schlagartig das Eis komplett weg. Mit „Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime“, einem Nena-Klassiker, den die beiden Powerfrauen 2003 gemeinsam in neuem Soundgewand herausbrachten, waren plötzlich Tanzen und Mitsingen im ganzen Haus angesagt. Dabei hat es sich Kim Wilde nicht nehmen lassen, Nenas Part sogar teilweise auf Deutsch zu singen. Ab diesem Moment startete unaufhörlich die 80er-Jahre-Party mit allen bekannten Songs der britischen Künstlerin, die sich in Pop und Rock gleichermaßen wohlfühlt.

Erwähnenswert ist, dass Kim Wilde mit ihrer 7-köpfigen Band auch Verwandtschaft mitgebracht hatte: Ihren Bruder Ricky Wilde an der Gitarre und dessen Tochter Scarlett zur Unterstützung im Gesang. Dazu noch die energiegeladene Schlagzeugerin Emily Dolan Davies (www.emilydolandavies.com) und es herrschte fast schon Parität auf der Bühne. Wie auch immer, die Show der Band strahle reichlich Spielfreude, Humor und Begeisterung auf die Fans ab.

Das Capitol hatte sich an diesem Abend zwischenzeitlich in einen Jubel- und Dancefloor-Saal verwandelt. Auf den bestuhlten Rängen saß längst niemand mehr. Nach gut über 90-minütiger Show, langem, Applaus mit Standing Ovations und vier weiteren Zugaben ging die Zeitreise in die 80er-Jahre dann leider schon zu Ende. Kurzum: Es war ein absolut gelungener Abend, nachdem der Konzerttermin der Kim Wilde Greatest Hits Tour wegen Corona bereits zweimal verschoben worden war. Eine Wiederholung wäre also durchaus wünschenswert – ganz im Sinne von Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime :)

Concert Review

With 80s icon Kim Wilde and the historically rich Capitol Theater Offenbach as location, the event manager Shooter Promotion had chosen the perfect combination for a glamorous evening. This was rewarded with a sold-out house, in which guests mostly of prime age gathered. For starters, everybody could enjoy tasty snacks and drinks in the classy atmosphere of the catering area. There was no opening act, the show started right at 8 p.m.

In the beginning, the reception was relatively reserved although Kim Wilde was delivering 100% to captivate her audience. The slow start was probably due to the choice of titles in the initial pop dance block, in which the 1988 single "Never Trust a Stranger" was still one of the best-known. Also "If I can't have you" (originally by the Bee Gees), "Second Time" and the very vintage art-pop song "M - Pop Muzik" did not fully hit the hearts of the audience yet.

But after about half an hour, the ice was suddenly completely broken. It was the hit "Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime" by the German singer Nena (re-released by the two power women in 2003 with an overhauled sound design as a duo version) that triggered everybody in the audience to dance and sing along. On stage, Kim Wilde even insisted on singing Nena's part in German. From that moment on, the 80s party was jumping and went on and on with all kinds of Kim Wilde classics, no matter if from her pop or rock side.

It is noteworthy that the British artist brought along some of her family to support her 7-piece band. There was her brother Ricky Wilde on guitar, and his daughter Scarlett appeared as a second singer. Add the drummer Emily Dolan Davies (www.emilydolandavies.com) who was bursting with positive energy, and you almost had gender parity on stage. However, the band’s show was emitting loads of musicality, humor, and enthusiasm over to the crowd.

In the meantime, the Capitol’s venerable hall had turned into a cheering dance floor. On the galleries with seating, no one was sitting anymore. After more than 90 minutes, long applause with standing ovations, and four more encores, the journey through time back to the 80s came to an end, alas. In short: It was an absolutely wonderful evening, even more so when considering that the concert, as part of the Kim Wilde Greatest Hits Tour, was already postponed two times because of the Corona pandemic. A replay would actually be really nice – strictly in the sense of Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime :)
